A social and developmental group, The Achievers’ Crew, recently inducted Omoba (Engr.) Olugbenga Ogunlewe, a senior civil servant, youth and community developer, as its Mayor.
The conferment, which took place at the special Igbogbo Day Party organized by the Crew at the Menzzo Bar, Igbogbo, was attended by chieftains and members of the group, as well as several guests.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), Achievers’ Crew, Mr Olugbenga Oduniyi, while performing the induction, said that the group is not a club but a group which, according to him, is flexible.
He said that the group is a social and developmental platform that provides its members platform to socialize and feel relaxed after work.
He said that members have common purpose, objectives and focus, and that they are achievers in their own rights.
“We have professionals among us. We are a group of community developers, socialites and noble men.
“We started just like play. It all started where we usually gathered while returning from our various places of work. So, it wasn’t as if we called one another to start a club. We didn’t even do formal meetings. We raise ideas and issues once we gathered to relax and take decisions.
“Our members are always striving for excellence in wherever that they are doing. We have the first President of the Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC), his successor and the incumbent as members.
“We thank God for our members who are doing great in their chosen fields and contributing greatly to the development of the community. We have three members in diaspora; a professor in the making -Associate Professor Nurudeen Oshinlaja who is in the UK. We also have Ogunyemi Mutiu in Canada, and Babatunde Jimoh also in the UK,
“The one and only lady, the Iyalode of Achievers, Adetutu Oshinowo, is also in the United Kingdom”, he said.
The BOT Chairman also commended young and vibrant Igbogbo youths like Abdulsalam …, President, Igbogbo Student’ Union (ISU), …Balogun, Speaker of the union, Malik Olorunkoshebi, Director of Studies, Fathia Kolejo, the Ikorodu Constituency II representative at the State Youth Parliament, Risikat Abubakri, FatIma, Damilare Kuti, former President, National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) among others that constitute themselves into Young Achievers’ Crew.
Introducing Omoba Gbenga Ogunlewe as the First Mayor of the Crew, Mr Ogunniyi said:
“To crown our celebration and joyful day which has come to a realty through the support of our members, I am presenting one of us, a crowned Prince, community builder, a progressive and an engineer by profession, Prince and Elder Olugbenga Adegbite Ogunlewe.
“Today, I present Prince (Eng.) Lion Elder Olugbenga Adegbite Ogunlewe as our Mayor and decorate as such”, he said.
Mayor Ogunlewe, in his acceptance and appreciation speech, said that the BOT Chairman and some other members of the Crew are people that he has been relating with very well and that they always share the same vision with him.
He pledged his support towards making the Crew’s base more accommodating.
“I humbly, in all sense of modesty, love and appreciation, accept the position of the Mayor of Achievers’ Crew”, Mayor Ogunlewe said.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development, Comrade Lekan Biliamin Oba, who was a special guest of honour at the event, commended the Crew’s members for their contributions to the community development and their professionalism.
While also appreciating them for sustaining their Crew, Comrade Oba charged that they should continue to support the government.
Many of the chieftains and members of the Crew that spoke about the first-ever Mayor of the Achiever’s Crew, described him as a true Prince in conduct and act, a community and religious leader, socialite and a developer per excellence.
